Sea Card® Live and Growing.
The United States’ bunk procurement system continues to grow with over 4,000 contract transactions successfully processed. SEA Card® is utilized exclusively by the Department of Defense, military services and the U.S. Coats Guard in order to procure bunker fuel.
In mid-2008, the DESC launched a pilot program for non-contract spot fuel transactions. This pilot ran for nine months with a limited number of Military Sealift Command, Nave and U.S. Coast Guard vessels utilizing the system. The pilot was officially declared a success in July 2009 by the DESC. Vessel rollout will continue during 2010. Nearly 600 vessels are currently approved to use the system and volumes are expected to increase as other branches of service join.
To date, there have been more than 150 spot transactions made using the SEA Card® system, representing $25 million. Merchants have the option to sign up for standard (average 30-day reimbursement) or fast pay (average 7-day reimbursement). If you are not yet signed up to receive SEA Card® inquiries, now would be an opportune time to do so.
